Five Reasons To Attend Your Routine Dental Appointment

One of my biggest concerns is the number of patients who miss their routine dental appointments. When a patient comes in to see me or one of the team at Langley Dental Practice, we set them up a routine appointment right there and then. We find that making the appointment is the easy part, getting them in for the appointment is a whole different story.

Many patients can't see the benefits of visiting the dentist if they don’t' have any dental issues or pain, but the fact of the matter is that we provide patients with routine appointments for a number of reasons.

Here are the top five reasons you should always attend your routine dental appointment.

Catch problems early

Often a patient won't be in pain and will feel that they have perfect oral health. During the routine appointment we thoroughly check the face, neck, mouth and teeth and gums to identify if there are any issues. By doing so, we are able to catch potential oral problems early on. This can reduce the risk of the problem growing and maybe becoming an expensive exercise in the long run.

Detect oral cancer

Oral cancer is a serious concern on a global scale and there are thousands of new cases being diagnosed in the UK alone each and every year. During the routine dental appointment, we are able to look for signs and symptoms of cancer. Early detection and treatment can increase survival rates, giving our patients a chance of enjoying a happy and normal life moving forward.

Affordable

Another thing patients don't take into consideration is that attending a routine dental appointment is cheaper than having to have emergency work done. This means the patient can save money in the long run, by working on the “prevention is better than cure” method.

Cleaning effective in removing decay causing plaque and tartar

Most routine dental appointments include a professional tooth cleaning. Even with accurate and regular brushing and flossing, there are areas of your teeth where plaque and tartar will form, these cause decay in the long run. With regular professional cleaning, you can ensure your teeth are squeaky clean at all times.

Preventative

Routine dental appointments shouldn't be seen as the dentist looking to tell you off or look for areas where you have gone wrong in terms of your oral health. These appointments should be seen as a preventative solution to ensure you enjoy good oral health now and moving forward.
