Tariq Drabu Discusses Front Teeth Replacement Options

Tariq Drabu is a leading dentist and specialist oral surgeon based in Manchester in the United Kingdom. He is the owner of the successful Langley Dental Practice and caters to patients of all ages on a daily basis. He mentioned that he works with hundreds of patients each year who have lost a front tooth either caused by an accident or tooth decay.

Losing a front tooth can really dash confidence levels and patients are very aware that their tooth is missing, which stops them from showing their teeth when they smile or hiding their mouth when they smile. Speaking may also be affected

There are three options available for patients who are looking to replace a missing front tooth.

Dental implants

Tariq Drabu advised that dental implants are used by patients to replace their missing tooth with a natural looking false tooth which doesn't affect their eating or speech and that they can feel comfortable with. A dental implant comprises of a titanium screw which is placed into the jaw bone. Over time the jaw bone fuses with the screw, holding it in place in the long term.

On top of the screw, the dentist places a crown, which is a false tooth. The crown is matched to your natural tooth colour and based on a mould of the mouth, ensuring it fits into place and blends in seamless with the other teeth, looking completely natural.

Bridge

Bridges are often used by patients with one or more front teeth missing. A bridge is a type of denture or false tooth which is then held in place by attaching it to the adjacent teeth. This is an affordable option and is relatively long lasting. Patients will feel an instant tooth of confidence once the tooth is in place, though it may take longer to get comfortable with the tooth than with an implants.

Dentures

Another option is a partial denture. These are removable, so you can remove the tooth to clean the surrounding teeth and gums to ensure the best level of oral hygiene at all times.

A denture is attached to a plate which is held against the roof of the mouth or lower area under the tongue. While dentures are affordable, they can take some getting used to and its not uncommon for patients to struggle with eating and their speech while they get used to the dentures.
