Tariq Drabu offers dental tips for mums

Tariq Drabu offers dental tips for mums

Tariq Drabu has drawn attention to the oral health in mothers who are busy trying to juggle work life, family and homes. It is not uncommon for mums to forget about their own health to
care for their family, often this can result in their oral health taking a knock, which can lead to problems in the future.

 Drink plenty of water

In order to promote healthy teeth and gums drink plenty of water. As you rush around, chances are you will forget to eat, you may even forget to brush your teeth from time to time, which is not uncommon as a busy mother. Keep water with you at all times, sipping on it to reduce the risk of dry mouth syndrome and promote ample saliva to ensure healthy teeth and gums moving forward.

Always be prepared

Tariq Drabu recommends that you pack a small toiletry bag which you can carry in your car or handbag with you at all times. You probably already carry plasters, anti-bacterial wipes and other emergency items, but a toiletry bag with a toothpaste, toothbrush and dental floss can go a long way when you have a minute to spare. After dropping your child as soccer practice you can run into the bathrooms and quickly brush your teeth or floss if you have eaten recently, getting oral health in wherever you can to ensure yo continue to enjoy good oral health as being a parent rules your life on a daily basis.

Eat healthy snacks

When it comes to snacks between meals, Tariq Drabu recommends you put together a few healthy snacks you can keep in the car with you. Choose crunchy fruits and vegetables which you can crunch on between meals but that will also increase saliva production. Stay away from sugared foods and drinks which is one of the leading causes of tooth decay throughout the world.

Chew sugar free gum

You can't floss every time you eat, but you can chew on sugar free gum which helps to remove food debris and break it down, removing it from the tooth surface. Sugar free gum also helps in the remineralisation of the tooth enamel, it increases saliva flow and it neutralises acids in the mouth.
