Tariq Drabu Recommends a Oral Health Checklist for Your Next Holiday

Summer holidays are just around the corner and when it comes to packing for those few weeks of sun-filled sun, there are certain oral health products that you should not be leaving at home.

There are six items that you should carry with you on each and every holiday for you and your family to ensure that no matter where you are, you can protect your teeth and continue your oral health routine from anywhere and at any time. Whether you are staying in a top resort on a tropical island or you are heading to the beach for a few fun days of camping, you will want to ensure that your oral health products are packed to protect your teeth and the teeth of your entire family this summer.

That means packing the toothbrush. Now according to Tariq Drabu, how you pack and care for a toothbrush is important as it can harbour dangerous bacteria which you don't want getting in your mouth. You can get travel toothbrush holders, otherwise allow to dry and then place in a bag, when you arrive at your destination, ensure you take out the tooth brushes and allow them to stand upright.

Next you will want to pack toothpaste, while this sounds obvious, being prepared means yo don't wake up tomorrow morning in a campsite to find that there is no open shops nearby and you don't have any toothpaste with you. Carry what you know, ensure it is a fluoride toothpaste that protects your family's teeth.

Tariq Drabu also recommends carrying mouthwash with you. You may want to carry mouthwash in your car and you and the family nibble along the way, you can rinse out mouths, to reduce the risk of food getting stuck on teeth and harbouring bacteria as a result.

Always carry sugar free chewing gum, Tariq Drabu advises. Sugar free chewing gum can increase saliva production while removing plaque and bacteria, it can also help neutralise acidity, which promotes healthy teeth and gums. This must not be used as an alternative to brushing, but it can be useful when in the car for long journeys.

Tariq Drabu also recommends you keep your dental floss on you at all times and after meals you can use the floss to clean between teeth to promote good gum health moving forward.

Tariq Drabu Offers Tips to Reduce Bleeding Gums

Tariq Drabu is a leading dentist and specialist oral surgeon who operates from his private practice in Middleton in the United Kingdom. This leading dentists advises that one of the problems some of his patients experience is bleeding gums and while it may not be serious, any bleeding gum that occurs on a regular basis should be examined by a dentist as soon as possible.

The first reason Tariq Drabu advises may be causing your bleeding gums is that you may be brushing a little too hard. When brushing you don't want to brush so hard you damage the gum, the brush should gently brush the gum to remove plaque and bacteria, but it shouldn't be so hard that it causes damage, pain, swelling or bleeding. When brushing, push gently with the brush and ensure you are using the right toothbrush that is not too hard for your gums.

The second reason Tariq Drabu advises may cause bleeding gums is that you are not brushing correctly. When you brush you want to hold the toothbrush at a forty five degree angle and brush gently. This is an effective way to ensure you reach the gum line and brush the area to reduce the risk of gum disease. At the same time, if you brush wrong, you could catch the gum and cause unwelcome bleeding, but it should only last a minute or two and then stop.

A big reason you may experience bleeding gums is that you are not brushing enough. While brushing too hard, brushing wrong and having the wrong brushing technique will all cause bleeding gums, so will not brushing enough. Remember you must brush twice a day for a minimum of two minutes per brushing. Two minutes is just enough time to concentrate on each individual tooth. Always brush right before bed and then once more during the course of the day. You will also want to incorporate flossing into your routine to reduce the risk of gum disease which can cause red and swollen gums along with bleeding when brushing.

Finally, Tariq Drabu recommends that anyone experiencing bleeding gums of any kind seeks urgent dental treatment. While it may be something minor, it could also be gum disease, which if ignored could result in tooth loss in the future.

Tariq Drabu Offers Advice on Getting Teeth School Ready in 2016

Tariq Drabu advised that one of the biggest concerns among the dental profession in the United Kingdom is the health of children's teeth. Children are being admitted to hospital daily to undergo general anesthetic and have their teeth extracted due to tooth decay, something which is completely preventable.

The problem is that many parents aren't even aware of what their children are eating at school, which is why Tariq Drabu wants to provide some assistance in getting teeth school ready this year.

One of the things that is recommended by Tariq Drabu is to start looking at healthy school lunch ideas and snacks. Focus on eliminating the sugars and incorporating crunchy fruits and vegetables, which can increase saliva production and provide the protection the teeth need. Another essential as part of the school ready lunch box is water rather than fizzy drinks or fruit juices. You may also want to consider milk, milk is brimming with calcium which is essential to strengthen teeth and bones moving forward.

Next set a routine that the children must follow. Tariq Drabu advises that starting the routine as young as possible is something that the child will use for the rest of their life, so a positive routine now will benefit them in the future. The routine should include brushing twice daily, once right before bed and then once before school combined with flossing. A timer should be used to ensure children do brush for the full two minutes and don't cut any corners.

Set up a rewards system. Children love rewards and Tariq Drabu advises that this is a fun way to ensure that they are focusing on their oral health this school year. Rewards can be anything from a fun day out to a treat after school. The system should be carried out over a number of days where the child is monitored to ensure that they are brushing correctly, eating healthy and avoiding sugars. They should be focusing on their oral health and enjoying healthy teeth and gums.

Tariq Drabu also recommends parents bring their children in for a dental check up before school starts each year to ensure that there are no underlying problems that may need urgent treatment in the coming months. Parents should also supervise their children's brushing and lead by example to ensure that all children have school ready teeth this year.
