Tariq Drabu Offers Tips to Reduce Bleeding Gums

Tariq Drabu is a leading dentist and specialist oral surgeon who operates from his private practice in Middleton in the United Kingdom. This leading dentists advises that one of the problems some of his patients experience is bleeding gums and while it may not be serious, any bleeding gum that occurs on a regular basis should be examined by a dentist as soon as possible.

The first reason Tariq Drabu advises may be causing your bleeding gums is that you may be brushing a little too hard. When brushing you don't want to brush so hard you damage the gum, the brush should gently brush the gum to remove plaque and bacteria, but it shouldn't be so hard that it causes damage, pain, swelling or bleeding. When brushing, push gently with the brush and ensure you are using the right toothbrush that is not too hard for your gums.

The second reason Tariq Drabu advises may cause bleeding gums is that you are not brushing correctly. When you brush you want to hold the toothbrush at a forty five degree angle and brush gently. This is an effective way to ensure you reach the gum line and brush the area to reduce the risk of gum disease. At the same time, if you brush wrong, you could catch the gum and cause unwelcome bleeding, but it should only last a minute or two and then stop.

A big reason you may experience bleeding gums is that you are not brushing enough. While brushing too hard, brushing wrong and having the wrong brushing technique will all cause bleeding gums, so will not brushing enough. Remember you must brush twice a day for a minimum of two minutes per brushing. Two minutes is just enough time to concentrate on each individual tooth. Always brush right before bed and then once more during the course of the day. You will also want to incorporate flossing into your routine to reduce the risk of gum disease which can cause red and swollen gums along with bleeding when brushing.

Finally, Tariq Drabu recommends that anyone experiencing bleeding gums of any kind seeks urgent dental treatment. While it may be something minor, it could also be gum disease, which if ignored could result in tooth loss in the future.
